Album Review: Alive!, Mik Artistik's Ego Trip
UK art rocker struts his stuff.
Leeds art-rocker Mik Artistik is one of the more inventive minds at work on the UK indie scene, and his imaginative approach is showcased to wonderful effect on the compilation Alive!
His skewed lyrical approach is often given a jaunty musical backing, putting one in mind of a more jovial version of The Fall. Highlights of this eclectic collection include the punky stomper ‘Library’, country hoedown ‘Rastafarian Wiring’ and the ethereal soundscape ‘Stars’. Best of all is ‘The Lights Are On’, a brilliantly deranged reworking of Robert Palmer’s classic ‘Addicted To Love’.
Mik Artistik’s Ego Trip performed at Dublin’s Grand Social on January 20 and provided a satisfactory show to all those who came with an appetite for deconstruction.
