Abstract Funk Theory
Ross Allen is often overshadowed by Gilles Peterson but, on the evidence of his new compilation, his taste is as exquisite as the Talkin Loud boss.

While previous Abstract Funk collections from Ian O'Brien and Colin Dale focused on abstract and deep strains of techno respectively, Allen's choices cut across boundaries, styles and movements at the arrival of each new track.
Randy Crawford's deeply soulful ‘Cajun Moon’ sits comfortably next to Norken and World Of Apples’ intricate spin on Detroit techno, while Sandy Rivera's deeply emotive ‘Come Into My Room’ garage classic nestles next to Lamb’s flawed, feedback pop.
Apart from his impeccable musical taste, Allen has also included a hard to find Rockers Hi-Fi/Ella Fitzgerald sound clash.
An abstract, funky and inspired collection of leftfield dance music.
