Tara Kumar shocks RTÉ 2FM fans with news of her departure
The new music show DJ announced today that she’s leaving the show and moving her career to the UK.
DJ and broadcaster Tara Kumar has announced her surprise departure from her new music show on RTÉ 2FM as she plans for a move abroad.
The Aussie-born radio personality spent the last six years working for RTÉ and the past three hosting her nightly music show, where she presents rising Irish artists every night from Sunday to Thursday. She has shone a spotlight on new and underground artists as well as interviewing some big names.
Under a selfie in the RTÉ studio posted to her Instagram account today, Kumar wrote, "This show has been my constant for the last few years, and I am so grateful for all of the incredible artists I’ve had the honour of playing, interviewing and discovering. Ireland is so full of so much talent and I’m so proud of how thriving the music industry is today. Music has always and will continue to forever be my first love. Thank you to every single person who has trusted me.”
She signed off the announcement with an Irish sentiment, sharing, “It’s time for a new adventure in London. Slán go fóill a chairde."
Kumar will present her final show next Wednesday, September 28 at 7pm. 2FM will also announce her replacement in the coming weeks as they endeavour to keep the spirit of the show alive.
Speaking about Kumar’s decision to leave, head of RTÉ 2FM Dan Healy says, “We are very sad Tara is leaving 2FM and yet very excited for her as she makes her way in London. Tara’s show on 2FM was a must-listen for anyone curious about new and good music. Tara is a taste-maker and will fly wherever she is."
The radio host has become a much-loved pioneer in the Irish music scene and her departure comes as a shock to her devoted audience.
