Sinéad O'Connor, Cillian Murphy and more to feature on EP Commemorating 100 Years since Armistice Day
One More Yard, an album inspired by over 30,000 letters written by young World War One soldiers in the trenches, will be released on November 2nd to commemorate the centenary of Armistice Day.
The One More Yard EP will be released on Evamore records as part of the Evamore project, which chronicles the sacrifices of young World War One soldiers and also raises awareness about today's war on cancer.
The EP began four years ago when Professor Sir Chris Evans was conducting research into a new cancer awareness charity and realized how similar their struggle and fighting spirit of those diagnosed was to that of young soldiers thrust into war. After reading first-hand accounts of their experience Sir Chris Evans was inspired to write a collection of songs with a number of co-artists using the common themes found throughout these letters.
The proceeds from the EP will go to a Cancer Awareness Trust providing help, support and guidance to those diagnosed with the disease.
The first track to be released, "One More Yard" is inspired by the letters of a young Irish soldier killed at Flanders, who wrote, “Nothing was spared, nothing – and when done there was not one more yard left” - battling 'one more yard' across no man’s land was a phrase often repeated by many soldiers in their letters and diaries.
A host of talent has come together to produce a stunning commemoration of the event. A prologue featuring a haunting instrumentation from producer Brian Eno will be accompanied by Cillian Murphy reading spoken word extracts from Lieutenant Michael Thomas Wall from the Royal Irish Regiment to his mother in Dublin.
Sinéad O'Connor will provide lead vocals on the album, with supporting vocals by Imelda May, Ronnie Wood on guitar and Nick Mason on drums.
First release "One More Yard" is an epic track with stunning vocals by Sinead O'Connor, a rising melody and deeply resonant lyrics that conjure up images of the loss, tragedy and hope.
