Palestinian boxers to tour Ireland in August
All proceeds from the Belfast event will go to two Palestinian organisations helping children and families in Gaza and the West Bank.
Several Palestinian boxers are set to tour Ireland in August, culminating with a special match against local Irish boxers at Féile an Phobail.
Hosted by The Shamrock and Olive Tree Boxing Project, the boxers and two of their coaches from El Barrio Boxing Club in Ramallah will travel to Waterford, Dublin, Drogheda and Belfast for various boxing events from August 1 to 8.
The Palestinian boxers will attend an event at Dublin's Sheriff Street Community Centre on August 4. Following a local celebration with Irish and Palestinian music, they will participate in a boxing exhibition with Docklands Boxing Club.
"Come along for a day of craic, ceol, boxing and solidarity," wrote Irish Sport for Palestine about the event in an Instagram post.
On August 7, the Palestinian athletes will face off against local Irish boxers from St. Paul's Antrim A.B.C. at the Devenish Complex in Belfast as part of Féile an Phobail.
All proceeds for the event will go to Lajee Centre, a youth-led cultural centre in the West Bank working with children through art, sport and education, and Beit Lahia Development Association, a community organisation in Northern Gaza working to provide education, food security and child protection to Gaza's most vulnerable families.
"This is more than a boxing show — it’s a statement of solidarity, culture, and compassion," wrote St. Paul's on Facebook.
"Come celebrate resilience. Come support peace through action."
