Minister Catherine Martin announces funding for Small Scale Local Festivals and Summer Schools
This government funding will support 34 festivals/summer schools taking place across Ireland in 2022.
The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD, has announced a funding allocation of €122,045 to support Small Scale Local Festivals and Summer Schools.
The funding allocation will support 34 events taking place across the country in 2022.
The scheme was designed to assist local cultural events which may not be eligible under funding criteria for larger scale events such as those supported by Fáilte Ireland, the Arts Council and similar bodies.
Funding was provided based on an application process which closed on April 22. The application process was extremely competitive, with a maximum grant of €5,000 available.
Speaking about the funding Minister Martin said: "I am very pleased to support the Small Scale Local Festivals and Summer Schools scheme this year. Culture and arts add hugely to our lives and to our community.
"These projects make a very important contribution to the development and promotion of Ireland's cultural tourism offering, to the benefit of both the domestic and foreign tourist. I send my congratulations and best wishes to the organisers and I hope that the attendees enjoy the events."
The 34 events will take place in the following counties: four in Donegal, five in Cork, three in Mayo, six in Cavan, two in Waterford, three in Kildare, two in Galway, one in Dublin, one in Wexford, one in Kerry, one in Sligo, one in Louth, one in Monaghan, one in Mayo, one in Tipperary, and one in Meath.
Recipients include: Mícheál Ó Cléirigh Summer School, Drimoleague Singing Festival, Wexford Literary Festival, West Cork History Festival, Kerry Writers Museum, Yeats Society Sligo, Ballina Fringe Festival, Kinsale Arts Weekend, Waterford International Film Festival, and Ballyshannon Folk & Traditional Music Festival.
