The trailer for Lorcan Finnegan's upcoming film The Surfer, starring Nicolas Cage, has been released.
Billed as "an entertaining, stylistic and psychologically unsettling piece of pulp cinema," The Surfer will arrive in Irish cinemas on May 9.
The film had its world premiere last year, in the Midnight Screenings section at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it earned a standing ovation.
According to the logline, in The Surfer "a man returns to the idyllic beach of his childhood to surf with his son, but is humiliated by a group of powerful locals and drawn into a conflict that rises with the punishing heat of the summer and pushes him right to his breaking point."
Shot and set in Australia, the film also stars Julian McMahon, Nic Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, Alexander Bertrand, Justin Rosniak, Rahel Romahn, Finn Little and Charlotte Maggi.
The Surfer was written by Dublin-born Thomas Martin, who has previously worked in Tin Star, Ripper Street and Raw.
Fellow Dubliner and filmmaker Lorcan Finnegan is known for his directorial work on features like Nocebo, Without Name and Vivarium.
