WATCH: Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet search for fossils in 'Ammonite' trailer
The film will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, after its run at both Cannes and Telluride were cancelled due to the Coronavirus.
The first trailer for the intense romantic drama Ammonite, starring Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet, has been revealed by Variety.
Set in England in the 1800s, the film is written and directed by Francis Lee. Winslet plays Mary Anning, a once-revered fossil hunter who works alone on the south coastline of England, searching for common fossils to sell to tourists to support herself and her sickly mother.
Ronan plays Charlotte Murchison, the wife of a wealthy tourist pays a visit to Mary and asks her to take care of his ailing wife as she is suffering from "melancholia.” Charlotte’s husband offers too much to turn down and Charlotte becomes Mary's apprentice.
Other cast members include Gemma Jones, James McArdle, Alec Secareanu and Fiona Shaw.
Ammonite was supposed to play at the Cannes Film Festival and Telluride Film Festival prior their cancellations due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will have its debut at the Toronto Film Festival in September, but a wide release date has yet to be announced.
