Trailer released for Hamnet starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal
The film will also star Emma Waston and Joe Alwyn
The trailer for Hamnet has been released, starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal. The feature is a historical drama telling the love story that inspired the creation of Shakespeare's Hamlet.
The film is based on Maggie O'Farrell's 2020 novel of the same name, that delves into a fictionalised account of the life and death of William and Agnes Shakespeare's son Hamnet.
"The story of Agnes - the wife of William Shakespeare - as she struggles to come to terms with the loss of her only son, Hamnet," reads the synopsis.
"A human and heart-stopping story as the backdrop to the creation of Shakespeare's most famous play, Hamlet"
The film will also star Emma Watson and Joe Alwyn. It is directed by the Oscar-winning Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, The Rider), who co-wrote the film with O'Farrell.
Buckley is also set to star in The Bride (2026) a spin off of Frankenstein, written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Earlier this year it was announced that Mescal will play Paul McCartney in the upcoming Beatles biopic, featuring four interlinked films, focusing on each bandmates perspective.
Hamnet will be out in cinemas on January 9, check out teaser trailer below:
