Stormzy to produce biopic of ex-Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright
The film, produced by Stormzy's #Merky Films is currently in early development with no official release date announced thus far.
Stormzy is set to produce a biopic of former England and Arsenal striker Ian Wright. The rapper will work with English filmmaker Tom Wilton to produce the film.
Ian Wright was Arsenal’s highest-ever goalscorer before he was overtaken by Thierry Henry. Wright earned 33 caps for England and won the Premier League in 1998.
“Telling my story in full for the first time feels surreal and, in some ways, a long time coming," Wight said about the film.
“Retelling my story to Tom has also made me realize how much Britain has changed from my parents arriving here on the Windrush, what that meant for me and my brothers, and the experiences that will never leave me.
“My story is one that truly shows how the company you keep can break you down and build you up. There are hard-hitting moments but in the end I want it to give people hope and joy.”
Stormzy, whose company #Merky Films is co-producing the feature, said that biopic goes far beyond football and acknowledges Wright's resilience and belief that “inspired generations”.
The film is currently in early development with no official release date announced thus far.
