Michael Fassbender to star in new Kennedy family Netflix series
The Kerry actor will appear as Kennedy family patriarch Joseph Kennedy Sr.
Michael Fassbender has been cast as Joseph Kennedy Sr. in the upcoming Netflix series Kennedy.
The series is based off of Swedish-American author Fredrik Logevall’s book JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956. The first season is set to feature eight episodes.
Kennedy will follow the prolific American dynasty through the 20th century, beginning with the story of patriarch Joseph Kennedy Sr., his life as a businessman and the narrative surrounding the upbringing of the nine Kennedy offspring.
The show is said to follow a similar structure to Netflix's notable series The Crown, which follows the story of Britain's royal family through a period of nearly 60 years.
Fassbender is primarily known for featuring in films such as 12 Years a Slave and Steve Jobs, both of which earned him Academy Award nominations. He currently stars in the Paramount+ Premium series The Agency, which is expected to premiere its second season next year.
He also starred in the Kneecap film released in 2024.
The show will be executive produced by Sam Shaw, known for creating the historical-drama Manhattan, which covered the Manhattan Project, the research which led to the creation of the Atomic bomb during World War II.
No official release date for the series has been announced.
