Marian Keyes to write new BBC radio series
She's one of a list of names that have recently been commissioned to produce comedy works for the broadcaster, including Joanna Lumley and Rowan Atkinson.
Marian Keyes has been commissioned by BBC Radio 4 to write her own comedy series. The bestselling Irish novelist will team up with comedy actor and writer Tara Flynn for the show, which is titled Between Ourselves with Marian Keyes and is based upon selected pieces from her bestselling essays Under the Duvet and Making It Up As I Go Along.
"It’ll be great fun to work with the fabulous Tara Flynn," said Keyes. "We’ve so much in common and so much to talk about."
Set to air in May 2019, the show will take shape as episodes that are presented as conversations between the pair.
"What an opportunity – I was delighted to be asked. I love Radio 4, so many great stories and storytellers – and now me."
Although both Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married and Watermelon - two of the Limerick writers most famous works - have both previously been adapted for television, this news marks the first time in which Keyes has had her own series commissioned.
Giddy Goat Productions will produce the show, with their MD Steve Doherty saying: "It’s rare to find such imaginative storytelling, gripping life experiences and a hugely engaging personality wrapped up in one, tiny, beautifully-shoed package - but that’s what we have with Marian. I’m really looking forward to working with her and presenting her to the BBC Radio 4 audience."
Keyes' 14th novel - My Poxing Book - is also due for a 2019 release.
