Laura Whitmore welcomes second child

Presenter, radio host, writer and actress Laura Whitmore has announced the birth of her second child on Instagram.

"A new player has entered the game!" she wrote.

"We welcomed the most precious baby last month, unexpectedly early and with dramatic flair (wouldn't expect anything else)."

"I had made a 5-hour birthing playlist this time...only played about 3 songs - ended up using it post birth. It's a reaaally good playlist, can somebody please use it."

Messages of support poured in, including one from Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who wrote: "Ah, congratulations."

Her husband, Iain Stirling, shared a post of his own: "Say hello to our newest little legend," he wrote. "I always wanted someone in the house who would stay up late and watch the World Cup with me. But this feels a little excessive."

Whitmore and Stirling have kept the name of their first child private and have yet to share details of their newborn.

Earlier this year, Whitmore starred on the first Hot Press cover openly celebrating pregnancy – wearing all Irish designers for the shoot with photographer Kathrin Baumbach. In her cover story interview, she discussed her determined effort to carefully guard her daughter's privacy online.

"I'd never judge people who do show their kids online," she reflected. "I just don't have it figured out yet - and I think if you're unsure of anything, err on the side of caution, where possible."

"I was actually told by a lawyer, when I had issues before, that if you ever, even once, put a picture of your child's face up, that means that any photographer or paparazzi can take a picture of your child out the front of your house, and print it," she continued. "That terrified me. And also, once someone has the name of your child and their date of birth, they can get all these other details. So I'm always really careful about how much information I share, and where."
