Diane Keaton's cause of death revealed
A family spokesperson told People that Keaton’s loved ones have asked for privacy following her death in California.
Diane Keaton's family have confirmed that the actress died of pneumonia.
Keaton passed away on October 11 at the age of 79. She was best known for her roles in Annie Hall, Father of the Bride, and The Godfather.
A family statement to US media said, "The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11.
"She loved her animals, and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her."
After making her film debut in 1970 with Lovers and Other Strangers, she played Kay in The Godfather, launching her career, which would span decades.
Multiple long-time fans, friends, and colleagues paid tribute to Diane Keaton; Woody Allen penned a piece for The Free Press in remembrance of his long-time collaborator, former romantic partner, and close friend.
Allen called Keaton "unlike anyone the planet has experienced or is unlikely to ever see again," adding, "her face and laugh illuminated any space she entered."
"When we first met, I thought she was so charming, so beautiful, so magical, that I questioned my sanity," Allen wrote. "Was it possible to fall in love so quickly?"
Keaton received Oscar nominations for her performances in Marvin's Room, Something's Gotta Give, and Reds, where she co-starred alongside Warren Beatty.
