Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andre Braugher dies age 61
Emmy-nominated actor Andre Braugher has passed away after a brief illness at age 61 – tributes for the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star have been flooding in online.
Braugher was known for his roles on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Homicide: Life on the Street.
The Chicago-born actor was nominated for 11 Emmy Awards – including four times for his iconic role as Captain Raymond Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
He won in 1998 for his role in Homicide: Life on the Street, and again in 2006 for his performance in Thief.
Braugher starred in this show as Detective Frank Pembleton, which ran from 1993 until 1999.
The actor met his wife Ami Brabson while working on the show and they later had three children.
His Brooklyn Nine-Nine castmate Terry Crews took to Instagram to pay tribute to the actor.
"I'm honoured to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared eight glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent"

"This hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you. Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship," he continued.
"You showed me what a life well lived looks like."
The director of the sitcom, Ryan Case posted some of her favourite memories of Braugher to X.
"My 'challenge' editing him in the Brooklyn pilot was finding takes where he wasn't smiling. We wanted to save that for the end. He was like a giddy school child doing his first comedy and it was so wonderful."
It makes me feel better to gush about him. Several members of the crew once told me they’d never seen someone smile as much as me when I was discussing Sex and the City at length over a long lunch on an empty set with Andre. My cheeks actually hurt.

"If there weren't men like Andre in this business I probably would've quit it a long time ago. The world is worse without him," she added.
Dirk Blocker also paid tribute to Braugher saying: "Fiercely intelligent, remarkably kind, supportive, generous and possessed a deep and extraordinary talent, and had even more to offer. I am devastated. I love him. The nine years I was able to work with him and to just be in his presence was truly a blessing."
