BBC to adapt Normal People author Sally Rooney's debut novel Conversations with Friends

The BBC have announced another collaboration with Irish author Sally Rooney: an adaptation of her debut novel Conversations with Friends.

The forthcoming series follows the BBC adaptation of Rooney’s 2018 novel Normal People. Made in partnership with Hulu, Normal People will premiere on BBC Three this spring.

Rooney’s 2017 novel describes a pair of Dublin college students who form an unconventional bond with a married couple.

Academy Award nominated Lenny Abrahamson will serve as lead director for the television adaptation, which will contain 12 half-hour episodes.

“I love Conversations With Friends, its depth, humour and freshness, and it’s an honour to be involved in bringing it to the screen,” Abrahamson says.

The show will air on BBC Three.
