Barry Keoghan and Brian Gleeson join Top Boy cast for Season 3
Top Boy is created and written by Irish novelist and screenwriter Ronan Bennett.
Irish actors Barry Keoghan and Brian Gleeson have been announced as new cast members for the third season of Netflix series Top Boy.
Production of the final chapter of the hugely popular series has begun in London.
The last season will feature Barry Keoghan and Brian Gleeson (Bad Sisters, Peaky Blinders, Frank of Ireland) who play new characters, Jonny and Tadgh.
The highly-rated Keoghan has had roles in a string of films including The Batman, American Animals, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Dunkirk, and Calm with Horses. Gleeson has also appeared in Snow White and the Huntsman and Channel 4 comedy Frank of Ireland.
Keoghan and Gleeson will join the regular cast Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson, Simbi Ajikawo, Jasmine Jobson, Saffron Hocking and Araloyin Oshunremi. Top Boy aired for two seasons on Channel 4 between 2011 and 2013.
The series is set in the fictional Summerhouse estate in the London Borough of Hackney and focuses on two drug dealers Dushane (Ashley Walters) and Sully (Kane Robinson) along with other young black youths involved with drug-dealing and gang violence in London.
Netflix revived the show six years after the Channel 4 cancellation following an intervention by mega-fan Drake, who was eager to know what happened next to Dushane and Sully, the narcotics kingpins played by Walters and Robinson.
The new season premiered on Netflix on 13 September 2019 and was presented as the first season, whilst the original series was added to Netflix under the name Top Boy: Summerhouse. The second new season aired on Netflix on March 18, 2022 with 8 episodes.
The third new and final season was renewed on 31 March 2022. Episodes 1 to 4 of season three will be directed by Myriam Raja, who was previously part of the Top Boy S1 mentee program, with Will Stefan Smith returning to direct the final two episodes.
Top Boy is executive produced by the original creative team - Charles Steel and Alasdair Flind for Cowboy Films, Ronan Bennett for Easter Partisan and Yann Demange. Also serving as Executive Producers are multi-faceted entertainer and producer Drake and his business partner Adel “Future” Nur; LeBron James; Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson for The SpringHill. Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson also serve as Executive Producers.
