Track Of The Day: Cherym – 'Listening To My Head'
This 'Hot for 2020' act from Northern Ireland based their latest single on 'Dirty John'...
Hailing news of a UK tour this Autumn, fearless Derry pop-punk trio Cherym have released their raucous new single, ‘Listening To My Head’. The high octane cut is out today via Alcopop! Records.
"This is a song we wrote after Hannah watched the Netflix series 'Dirty John'," Cherym explain. "It’s written from the point of view of Betty Broderick, wife of Dan Broderick, a successful business man who used Betty to gain his success, tormented her life, left her penniless in the divorce settlement, took full custody of their children, and abused her throughout their relationship. In the end, she ended up killing him...and his lover, but that’s beside the point. This is Betty’s song."
Cherym formed after the girls met in college, developing a bond over garage rock, pop punk and the steady, infectious desire to make it big. When they started, the band was a reaction to the local music scene and its 'boys club', and soon the band were raking in accolades, cementing themselves among Northern Ireland's most compelling up-and-coming voices.
