THE PRINCESS DIARIES
Disposable Disney-flick
Mia (Anne Hathaway) is a run-of-the-mill kid from San Francisco, who true to teen-movie stereotypes lusts after the most popular boy in school, all the while oblivious to the attentions of her best friend’s brother. She discovers, however, that she is the improbable heir to the throne of Genovia, and before you can say ‘fish-out-of-water comedy’, up pops Julie Andrews in a godmother role to teach our royal-to-be which fork to use and so on. This disposable Disney-flick from the insufferably sappy Garry Marshall will prove enchanting for all those who still play with Barbie dolls. For everyone else, it’s unlikely to be so pleasant.
