Manchester United honour memory of Gary 'Mani' Mounfield at Sunday game
The late Stone Roses bassist was a lifelong United fan.
Manchester United have honoured the late Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream.
During their Sunday match against Arsenal at the Emirates, the team wore tracksuits emblazoned with “Mani 1962-2025” under the club crest to pay tribute to the late bassist.
Born Gary Mounfield in 1962, the Manchester native joined The Stone Roses in 1987. After they disbanded in 1996, he played for Primal Scream.
Mani passed away last November at age 63. He is survived by 13-year-old twin boys.
A lifelong Manchester United fan, Mani once quipped that The Stone Roses would reunite after “Manchester City won the European Cup.” United stars David Beckham and Gary Neville were among his funeral attendees.
A statement from United referred to Mani as a "lifelong Red and friend of the club."
"Mani’s music continues to be played at every Old Trafford matchday and most notably when ‘This is the One’ signals the teams walking out of the tunnel," the team asserted. "The club was part of his DNA and he was proud to be Red."
