Janelle Monáe joins cast of Gloria Steinem Biopic
She will play Dorothy Pitman Hughes
Janelle Monáe is officially joining the Gloria Steinem biopic The Glorias: A Life on the Road. Actor’s Julianne Moore and Alicia Vikander are also set to star in the film playing Steinem at various points in her storied career as a journalist and feminist activist.
Julie Taymor is set to direct from a script based on Steinem’s memoir. Alex Saks will produce the project via his Fifty-Four Pictures, along with Taymor and Lynn Hendee. Steinem and Amy Richards are executive producing.
Monáe has established herself as a prominent actor in recent years landing roles in best picture Oscar winner Moonlight and Oscar-nominated Hidden Figures. Just this week, she nabbed two Grammy Award nominations for Dirty Computer. The album appeared at number three in The Hot Press Albums of the Year 2018 list.
