As the weasly Mr. Pink is Reservoir Dogs, Steve Buscemi almost stole the show from Harvey Keitel. He gets another chance to shine in Alexandre Rockwell’s smart and engaging low-budget comedy, although he is constantly in danger of having the show stolen from him by veteran Seymour Cassel.

They team up as a naïve young film-maker with no takers for his five hundred page script and an old gangster who promises him financial backing, but first there are cars to be stolen and break-ins to be perpetrated.

Innocence is pitted against experience, but the unlikely duo find common ground in the world of love, with Cassel helping Buscemi romance Jennifer Beals. Extremely funny and enchanting, In The Soup utilises script and performances to overcome all the obstacles of its impoverished budget. Even the black and white looks good.
