Set 20,000 years ago, during that breakthrough period for all things mammalian, this digital animation movie sees a small tribe of Ice Age humans come under attack from a pack of snarling sabre-toothed tigers. In the ensuing struggle a mother sacrifices herself in order to save her baby daughter.
The lone infant is fortunately rescued by a merry band of prehistoric animals including Manny the wooly mammoth (Romano), Sid the Sloth (Leguizamo) and Scrat, the squeaky, sabre-toothed squirrel thingy.
Together, they resolve to re-unite the baby girl with her daddy, but one of the tigers (Leary) persuades them to let him come along. Thus, the quest is jeopardised by a sabre-toothed sabateur, not to mention the rivers of lava and avalanches they must brave along the way.
Admittedly, Ice Age is not quite up there with Toy Story as cross-over kiddie flicks go, but this is a pleasant diversion.
