Artist Sean MacCarthy Appointed to Design Gary Moore Statue in Belfast

Plans have been announced for the construction of a long-awaited memorial statue in Belfast dedicated to Irish guitarist Gary Moore, who in addition to an impressive solo career, played in the groups Skid Row and Thin Lizzy. The project will be helmed by acclaimed figurative sculptor Sean MacCarthy, from Cork City, who has created numerous works including the Christy Ring statue at the Cork Airport and the Bill Clinton statue at Ballybunion Co.Kerry.

Fundraising for the statue will begin with a stirring blues and rock show, “Gig for Gary”, on Friday April 12^th at Belfast Empire Music Hall. The show features an impressive line-up of artists, with Belfast legend and Thin Lizzy founding guitarist Eric Bell and his band The Eric Bell Trio headlining. Also performing are Belfast band “Sam Davidson’s Taste”, Dublin’s Gerry Quigley and his band The Nomadic Druids, and the Patricia Moore Band from the UK. The artists will be performing their own renditions of Gary’s songs and tunes inspired by his legacy.

Tickets for the April 12^th show are currently on sale from Ticketmaster. Additional funds for the statue will be collected with a tee-shirt campaign, to be available online.
