Wellington Weekender returns to Workman's Club
The Wellington Weekender returns to the Workman’s Club from June 16-18, promising live acts, DJs and spicy chicken wings - and all for free.
The Irish queen of ambient folk Katie Kim will headline the Workman’s main venue on Friday June 16 - she’ll be supported by Aoife Nessa Frances. Katie is still touring last year’s Choice nominated album Salt.
Saturday’s headliners in the main venue are Pleasure Beach, who hit the big time last year with their single ‘Go!’, which was nominated for Choice Song of the Year. It has now notched up more than 1 million plays on streaming services around the world.
In the Liqour Rooms on Saturday is Katie Laffan, whose lo-fi bedroom pop swiftly thrust her onto the cover of Hot Press last year.
Earlier on Saturday, there’ll be an acoustic stage in the Workman’s Club Terrace, while the adjoining Bison Bar & BBQ will host a spicy chicken wing eating contest at 2pm.
The Weekender will wrap up on Sunday as the Workman’s Comedy Club, hosted by Ruth Hunter and Conor O’Toole, takes over the venue’s Vintage room for the night.
