Slow Place Like Home drops new single and video
Donegal musician Keith Mannion releases new song
Following his 2016 single, ’Tiger Lilly,’ Slow Place Like Home (AKA Keith Mannion) has just released a brand-new song — ‘When I see you...Ice cream.’ The fresh single is out today, 19 June, via Strange Brew Rekkids.
‘When I see you...Ice cream’ is certainly a home-grown single, recorded and produced entirely in Mannion’s own bedroom. Even the music video, co-directed by Keith and Michael Liston, was filmed in Donegal.
The single reflects Mannion’s eclectic style, with influences ranging from Marvin Gaye, to Patti Smith to Duke Ellington. The musician/producer describes his new single as, “a landmark shift of sound for the SPLH project. The parameters used for creating previous compositions were abandoned and it surged like new blood in the veins. ‘When I See You…’ was initially conceived on a Casio SK-5 unit and deployed to several other instruments before becoming the beast it evolved into. Vocal samples by myself were chopped up, treated and tempered to the track. At the heart of it is an 8-bit frenzy, ready for nostalgic earlobes.”
