The Queen Of Ireland makes Irish documentary history
The Miss Panti celebrating film got off to a first weekend flyer
Given a resounding thumbs up in the new issue of Hot Press - out tomorrow with a Metropolis-bound Le Galaxie on the cover - The Queen Of Ireland’s first weekend take was €47,906 - the highest ever for an Irish documentary.
Only Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/1 and Amy have got off to a better start here. With huge overseas interest in Panti’s story, the Conor Horgan-directed film looks like being both a massive money-spinner, and also a clarion call for same-sex marriage rights around the globe.
At The Queen Of Ireland’s recent Light House premiere, Panti and Rory joked that they wouldn’t mind succeeding Michael D. and Sabina in the Phoenix Park - judging by the response to their life story, it could just happen.
