Orchid collective light up the Oxjam stage
The talented trio did not disappoint with their EP debut.
The Oxjam tent provided the perfect intimate setting for the soulful melodies of Orchid Collective.
The newly forged group have been writing furiously to create new material and gigging relentlessly around Ireland. Dabbling with vocal harmonies and soundscapes, not unlike Bon Iver and James Vincent McMorrow, the group are building an army of supporters.
It was a delight to hear some of their old classics but also to hear some of their beautiful new songs set to be released in October.
'Follow You' was a wonderfully haunting and ethereal melody that left you thinking long after the set was finished. 'Tomorrow' was a pleasant surprise with piercing electric guitar riffs highlighting the gorgeous dulcet tones of lead singer David O'Shea. There was an interesting shift in pace with 'Courage' - a folky creation driven by snapping percussion and edgy guitar.
It was the infectious camaraderie between the lads as well as their pitch perfect vocals that made them a soothing highlight of a busy Saturday afternoon at Electric Picnic.
