Video Premiere: State Lights 'Let You Go'
State Lights' 'Let You Go' is a little George Michael, a little Freddie Mercury, and a whole lot brilliant.
Last week, State Lights released their oh-so-80's single 'Let You Go'. The track was written by Shobsy, Joe, Noel and Paul, and today Hot Press is excited to premiere its accompanying video.
"Writing this felt like I was writing a love letter, essentially," says Shobsy. "It was one of those songs that just flowed, and I love when that happens. Writing it was nearly as fast as it appears in the video, and it was fairly clear to me where the video should go because that was such a vivid experience".
Shot betwen two locations – a friend's warehouse and Sandymount beach – the video sees Shobsy sitting in the dark, composing the song, and then walking along the beach with the rest of the band. 'Let You Go' takes inspiration from Queen and George Michael, two of Shobsy's heroes. "I absolutely adore the 80's, because it was so dramatic and over-the-top. People were passionate about the way they presented themselves." It's an irresistibly catchy slice of pop-rock, and while it certainly draws on the 80's, it also maintains a beautiful originality in today's musical climate.
