On June 17th 1976, Blondie released their very first single, 'X Offender'. It was originally titled ´Sex Offender' and the lyrics were about an 18-year-old boy being arrested for having sex with his younger girlfriend, but Debbie Harry decided to change the words so that the song was about a prostitute being attracted to the police officer that had arrested her.
Blondie’s label back then, Private Stock, insisted that the single title should be changed to 'X Offender' to avoid any controversy with the original name of the song.
Two years after their debut single, Debbie Harry would be at the Hot Press cover (one that turned out to be so iconic that is one of our best sellers in our recently open Classic Covers T-Shirt Collection). A lot of things happened in the life and tours of Harry and the gang as you can see through the collection of photographs we’ve got from our archive above. Long live the heart of glass!
