KNEECAP gather medical aid for Cuba ahead of Neustra América Convoy
The Nuestra América Convoy is a response to a recent executive order from the Trump administration, cutting off fuel to Cuba.
KNEECAP have announced they have gathered over 200 kg of critical aid ahead of their journey to Cuba with the Neustra América Convoy.
The Nuestra América Convoy is a response to a January executive order from US President Trump which imposed tariffs on any country which provides oil to Cuba. UN experts have called the executive order “a serious violation of international law and a grave threat to a democratic and equitable international order" and warned that cutting off Cuba’s fuel supply could lead to a “humanitarian crisis”.
“The consequences of the US siege are lethal for newborns and parents, for the elderly and the sick,” reads the Nuestra América Convoy’s website. “That is why we are preparing the Nuestra América Convoy to Cuba, mobilising by air, land, and sea in solidarity with the Cuban people.”
In a post on their X account, KNEECAP wrote, "We head to Cuba later this week as part of an international solidarity group to bring critical medical aid for the Cuban people."
"To everyone who has assisted us in gathering it, GRMA, we will travel with over 200 kg of critical medicines.
"As the Taoiseach heads to Washington to shake the hand of a warmonger, we'll be in Cuba, where the island is being strangled and starved by the man who'll be handed shamrock."
Recently, Trump has discussed leveraging the approaching humanitarian crisis towards a US-led regime change in Cuba.
“It may be a friendly takeover; it may not be a friendly takeover,” said Trump last week. “It wouldn’t matter because they’re really, they’re down to, as I say, fumes. They have no energy. They have no money. They’re in deep trouble on a humanitarian basis.”
In addition to Kneecap, US streamer Hasan Piker has announced that he will be joining the Convoy.
The Belfast Trios' third album, Fenian, is out on April 24, and the Nuestra América Convoy is due to arrive with aid in Cuba on March 21.
