THE HEIR TO Dr. John’s voodoo blues throne, John Hammond, pays an April 21st visit to HQ.
He comes armed with a new album, Wicked Grin, that was written and produced by his old mucker, Tom Waits.
“When John asked me, I said ‘yes’ and then gulped, having never done it except with my wife on my own records,” Waits says. “John’s sound is so compelling, complete, symmetrical and soulful with just his voice, guitar and harmonica. I couldn’t imagine at first how it could be improved on.”
Tough task or not, he managed to do it, with Hammond enthusing that, “It’s the most evocative, imagistic, incredible material I’ve ever recorded.”
