Watch: Dame Helen Mirren sums up 2016 in Christmas message

Ahead of her appearance on the Graham Norton show tonight, a short clip of the actress has surfaced online of her summing up the year that was in a succinct, brutally honest message.

Speaking to the camera in the style of Queen Elizabeth, the actress wished viewers a Merry Christmas and then began:
"Hello, at this time of celebration and togetherness, we have the chance to reflect on the year gone by."

"And I think that we can all agree that 2016 has been a big pile of shit," she said, keeping a straight face.

"So my advice to you, is drink responsibly and be merry. Have a very happy Christmas, but above all, go see Collateral Beauty out on Boxing Day."
