War Child to reissue iconic charity album featuring Sinéad O'Connor cover of 'Ode to Billie Joe'
The album will be available on October 17.
War Child have announced the reissue of the 30th anniversary charity album Help. The record will feature artists including Sinéad O’Connor, Oasis, Blur, Manic Street Preachers, Radiohead, Paul McCartney and Portishead.
The 1995 album will be reissued as a 10-piece 10 x 7” LP box set and will contain songs from the original album.
Help was created to raise funds for children effected by the Bosnian war. Its initial release raised over €1.44 million for the cause.
The endeavour brought together a number of musicians that had never appeared on the same record before.
“We’ll put aside our differences for the cause – and it’s the only time you’ll see the two of us agreeing on anything,” said Noel Gallagher at the time, referring to Blur.
Contributers included Sinéad O’Connor's cover of ‘Ode to Billie Joe’ and a version of The Beatles‘ 'Come Together' featuring Paul McCartney, Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher and others.
Additionally, the album brought Manic Street Preachers back to the studio following the disappearance of their lyricist and guitarist Richey Edwards. They covered B.J. Thomas’ ‘Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head’.
In 2020, Help was reissued for its 25th anniversary and became available on streaming platforms for the first time.
War Child now provides aid to countries including Gaza, Sudan and Ukraine.
The 30th anniversary version of Help will be available on October 17 and can be pre-ordered here.
