US copyright claims thrown out over Belters Only's 'Make Me Feel Good'
The DJ duo have avoided the ongoing lawsuit over the 2011 tune 'At the Club'.
The copyright claims against Irish DJ duo Belters Only for their 2022 hit song 'Make Me Feel Good' have officially been dismissed.
The Irish chart topper sampled 2011's 'At the Club', dragging Belters Only Productions into a long-standing copyright dispute between US-based artists Lynn Lockamy and Timmy Regisford.
In August, a US Judge dismissed copyright infringement claims, brought on by Lockamy, against the third party defendants, including Belters Only and record labels Universal Music and Polydor.
The Judge said Lockamy's claims did not meet the legal time limit for initiating a lawsuit.
The Judge stated that a copyright infringement suit must be commenced within three years after the claim happens. The Judge claimed Lockamy had knowledge of the dispute for “more than a decade” before suing.
The case between Regisford and Lockamy over rights to 'At the Club' has been going on for years after Regisford claimed both he and Lockamy were the owners of the track and Lockamy claimed that she had entire ownership.
Lockamy also said Regisford had registered himself as owning half of the song without her authorisation and that his claims for royalties infringed on her copyright.
The case was further complicated when Universal Publishing UK bought half of Regisford's rights to the song.
Lockamy claimed that Belters Only could only have obtained the version of 'At the Club' used for her remix from Regisford, and that the group paid royalties to Regisford and not to her.
Last November, Lockamy filed the third-party complaint against Belters Only, Universal and Polydor for direct and secondary copyright infringement.
The case between Lockamy and Regisford is still ongoing.
