Uly releases 'cold water'
"Music has helped me keep my head straight for what feels like forever."
Nearly a year after Uly's debut offering, Rafino M.J. Murphy is back with another breezily brilliant single. Called 'cold water', the dusty, lo-fi track is about Uly's experience finding a hobby outside of music.
Surfing helped the Dubliner emerge from the other side of a bad bout of writer's block swinging. For Uly, 'cold water' is about "acknowledging that feeling of having found something that I didn’t know I needed".
On 'cold water', his gentle falsetto is tinged with jazz and a subtle undercurrent of surf rock – not the corny kind. Uly is one of those maddening artists who seems to throw out a nonchalant gem or two when it suits him, but 'cold water' reminds us that talent doesn't take a day off, and songwriting is hard work.
