Ultan Conlon talks tonight's Trinity gig opening for Bryan Ferry
The musician tells Hot Press what to expect for his performance at tonight's Trinity Summer Series gig
Originally, I was just told to keep July 27 free and that there might be a date for me in Dublin. I looked to see what was on and said: "It's hardly the Bryan Ferry one?!" When it was finally confirmed that we were indeed supporting Bryan Ferry, we were absolutely thrilled! We're really looking forward to it.
I'm a big fan of Ferry. I like a lot of his solo work. I heard the show he did at the Olympia recently was standout. His band is fantastic. Just opening for that kind of act and getting to hang around with them after, it's exciting. Hopefully, I'll get to meet him.
I'm bringing my band, The Night Owls, for the show. It's a five-piece, but we'll also have some brass. We're bringing a percussionist. We'll focus on our punchier songs. We're really going to rise to the challenge of playing an outdoor arena.
I've also got a bunch of shows in July with Mary Coughlan around the country. I'm doing another single in Ireland as well. There's a track on my new album called 'A Weak Heart Like Mine'. When Mary heard it, she rang me and said it would really work as a duet. We started gigging it and it's been very well received so we said: "Let's get into the studio and put it out there."
