Holler If You Hear Me will perform its last show on July 20, after barely lasting six weeks.
The musical Holler If You Hear Me will close this Sunday after six weeks of poor reviews and lackluster ticket sales. The show, which isn't based on tupac's life but instead uses lyrics from his songs to tell a completely different story, boasted a cast that included musician, poet, actor and writer Saul Williams and was directed by Kenny Leon.
Problems arose from the beginning of the shows run, opening to small crowds during it's preview run from June 2 to its June 19 official opening and seeing it's capacity reduced by 600 from its original 1,700. The show never made more than $200,000, extremely poor amongst it's Broadway counterparts that can boast earnings in the millions, and was forced to sell its tickets for almost five times cheaper than the typical Broadway show.
