Time Gentlemen, Please
THE AFRO CELT Sound System return to live duty on July 15th when they descend on the Olympia.
Prior to that comes the May 28th release of Further In Time, their third album which features guest performances by Peter Gabriel and Robert Plant.
“This album sees a development in our sound as we’ve added more African and dance elements,” says Simon Emmerson. “By the third album, most bands have run out of ideas but we went the other way. We had an explosion of ideas and had something like 50 tracks which came out of five years on the road, touring together.”
As for the superstar collaborations, “If someone had told me we’d be working with two of the biggest icons from the ‘70s rock scene, I’d have laughed. As we’re a maverick type of band, that doesn’t like to settle in one particular area, it seemed like a maverick thing to do.”
The 12-track collection is also notable for the fact that it contains Iarla O Lionaird’s first English lyrics.
