The Wants
Indie rock spiced by synths
For a while the Phantom Band had me fooled (in a good way) with a broad pallet of electronic bleeps, bloops and whoops (strewn most liberally around the opening tracks). After a few more listens, however, it’s clear that beyond some mildly diverting synths and vocal samples, it’s just cluttered indie-rock, with baritone vocalist Rick Anthony unsure as to whether he wants to be a Scottish accented Ian Curtis (when he’s feeling emotionless) or a Scottish accented Eddie Vedder (when he’s feeling emotional). Sigh.
Key Track: ‘Everybody Knows its True’
