Swedish mob's swangsong a sad affair
Frontman Ebbot Lundberg recently announced that, after a series of brief hiatuses, this new LP will be the last from The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, as “their journey is at an end.” As a result, listening to the seventh album from the bearded Swedish reformed punks turned psychedelic nu-hippies feels a little bit like you’re at a wake of a dearly departed friend. It adds a distinctly morose, wistful vibe to proceedings (check ‘Reality Show’ and ‘You Are The Beginning’). Their huge, wide-screen Kinks-ian hooks and Stones-y swagger come out to play every now and again and we’re reminded why we love the band thanks to the Ray Davies-esque raunch of ‘Freeride’. But for the most part their swansong is a downbeat one...
