The Offspring: Days Go By
Pop punks have seen better days
Much like their once spiky barnets, The Offspring’s brand of punk pop is starting to wilt a little. Days Gone By is the ninth album from Dexter, Noodles and Co. and there is an absence of anything really fresh. Novelty single ‘Cruising California (Bumpin’ In My Truck’) is a shameless attempt to get back on the radio and is about as punk as Peppa Pig as a result. Unless I am badly mistaken, the title-track draws too heavily on the riff from ‘She Sells Sanctuary’ by The Cult. ‘Secrets From The Underground’ and ‘Dirty Magic’ are saving graces, but there’s nothing on Days Gone By to rival anything from the much celebrated Smash. If you want to hear real punk metal, pick up Feel The Darkness by Poison Idea instead.
