The Breeders set for Vicar Street dates
Kim Deal and co. are coming to Dublin this fall.
The Breeders, a a band which started out as side project for members of classic alt-rock groups and went on to become so much more than that, are returning to Vicar Street on October 16.
Formed in 1989 by the Pixies bassist Kim Deal and others, The group at first enjoyed little commercial success but plenty of critical attention when they released their debut album Pod in 1990.
It wasn't until they released the follow-up Last Splash, which featured the hit single 'Cannonball', did the The Breeders get some much deserved mainstream airplay in a a time where alternative rock ruled the charts.
Last Splash would eventually go platinum and 'Cannonball' peaked at no.2 in the U.S. Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. in 1994 the Breeders supported Nirvana on their In Utero tour, opening for the group for their Dublin and Belfast dates that year .
Since then there have been a couple of hiatuses, both in the 90s and the 2000s and several lineup changes but Kim has been a constant presence whenever The Breeders are active. Her sister Kelley, had also become an integral part of the band after joining in the 90s.
After reuniting and touring again to mark the 20th anniversary of Last Splash a couple years ago , The band decided to carry on and are currently working on new material.
Tickets are priced at €35 and go on sale Thursday July 6 at 9am.
