Sprints release two new songs 'Rage' and 'Beg'
Check out the new singles and videos below.
Dublin punk band Sprints have released two new singles 'Rage' and 'Beg'. These are the second and third songs on their sophomore album All That Is Over (set to arrive on September 26), with 'Descartes' coming out last month.
"I think in the world today, it’s a lot easier to be angry than it is to help facilitate change," said Karla Chubb, band member, while discussing the meaning behind 'Rage'. "People are fatigued, disillusioned - it’s understandable, but we shouldn’t be pointing the finger at those already marginalised and making them shoulder the blame. The world is full of false prophets and false promises; it's time we call them out. Don’t let the rage bait fuel the fire and burn us all in the process."
Chubb said that 'Beg', on the other hand, "is written in part as a joke ... It's tongue in cheek, it's satirical, and it pokes fun at the idea that often it's those in positions of power that preach their moral codes and judgments, while committing the most heinous crimes themselves. Meanwhile, the communities often under attack are just aiming to exist and to live."
The two singles also come with accompanying music videos that feature Chubb's friends and drag queens, Kiki Cult and Hansun Lamb.
"Sprints have always had a pretty clear stance on both gay rights and more specifically trans rights and she wanted to flip some stereotypes upside down by having some drag queens acting like lairy blokes on a night out and terrorising the public," said David Willis, director of the videos.
The band's first album Letter To Self earned them nominations for both Irish Album of the Year and Irish Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the Choice Music Prize. Additionally, Sprints performed at Glastonbury last month.
They are set to have an instore appearance at Tower Records, Dublin and and a signing at Spindizzy, Dublin on September 26. They have performances at Empire Hall, Belfast on November 2 and Vicar Street, Dublin on November 20.
Sprints' upcoming album is now available for pre-order and can be found here.
