SPRINTS announced for special London show celebrating 50th anniversary of legendary punk gig

SPRINTS have been announced for a London show at the 100 Club on September 20, celebrating the 50^thanniversary of The Punk Special.

The second night of the show on September 21 will feature Maruja.

The price of admission remains the same as it was in 1976, £1.50.

Promoted by Ron Watts with help from the Sex Pistols manager, Malcolm McLaren, The Punk Special featured The Clash, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Subway Sect and Sex Pistols on the opening night, with The Damned, Buzzcocks, Chris Spedding and The Vibrators and Stinky Toys from Paris the following night.

In the audience were figures the likes of Paul Weller, Shane MacGowan, Viv Albertine and Vivienne Westwood.

To mark the 50^th anniversary of that gig, the 100 Club is hosting two shows on the same dates.

“We’ll be putting on two shows that celebrate not just what punk was 50 years ago, but what it represents now,” reads an Instagram post from the 100 Club. “In my opinion, Punk is THE most important genre and subculture that the UK, or anyone else has ever produced or invented.”

“The list of good it’s done is endless when you consider the background of despair, racism, poverty and sexism it grew from.”

In March, SPRINTS released a new single ‘Trickle Down’, the follow up to their 2025 album All That Is Over, which received a best of 2025 placement from Hot Press.

They are currently on tour in the UK and Europe, with an upcoming stop in Sheffield. Last month, they made a stop at All Together Now festival in Waterford.
