Twenty-something obsessed with teenagers writes ‘80s pop music
Aging electro-hipster puts sexy teens on cover of album rather than alienate the youth demographic shocker! This is essentially a homage to 1980s electro and some of it is quite rocking (or popping if you want to be genre specific) – think Giorgio Morodor, Duran Duran, ELO, Simple Minds and the Human League. It doesn’t really transcend pastiche though and it’s not good enough to forgive the prurient interest in the lives of teenagers that’s demonstrated across the album (what’s with French musicians and this creepy teenager-obsession? I blame Vanessa Paradis) but you know, it’s not bad and might just appeal to the sprogs who never caught this music the first time round.
