Reggie Yates Quits Top Of The Pops Following Anti-Semitism Controversy
The radio and TV presenter has stepped down from presenting this year's Top of the Pops Christmas specials after making insulting comments in a podcast about the Jewish community.
Yates caused outrage last month when he claimed: "The thing that makes it great about this new generation of artists is that they ain’t signing to majors. They’re independent, they’re not managed by some random fat Jewish guy from north west London, they’re managed by their brethren.”
Yates immediately apologised for his 'flippant" comments, but he has now revealed that he will not be presenting the Top of the Pops' specials at Christmas.
Taking to Twitter last night, Yates said that he would like to "apologise unreservedly" to the "Jewish community, people in the music industry and anyone else I have offended”.
He also wrote: "I can see clearly that the words I used reinforced offensive stereotypes and that there is no context which would justify such remarks. My comments are no reflection on how I truly feel.”
