Prince episode of Hot Press Classics out now
Dearly beloved, Paul Nolan and Donny Keane are gathered here today to discuss a Prince masterpiece - his 1984 blockbuster Purple Rain.
Hot Press Classics is back with a new episode, focusing on Prince's 1984 blockbuster Purple Rain.
In this instalment, Paul Nolan is joined by special guest Donny Keane to discuss the tragic and sudden passing of Prince in 2016, its closeness to the news of Bowie's death, and the mourning of the late pop icon.
They also explore the brilliance of Prince as a live act, particularly reminiscing on his famous 2011 show in Malahide Castle, and the inconsistencies in his later studio outputs.
They also insist on Prince's excellence in all areas of music, from multi-instrumentalist to singer, dancer, producer and everything in between, and his status as an absolute hit machine.
Elsewhere, the duo puts forward Prince's status as an absolute pop superstar and his place in the charts with Purple Rain in 1986, as well as the accompanying film of the same name.
Plus, they discuss Prince's controversial personality, his work as a songwriter for other musician's, including his collaboration with Sinead O'Connor.
Finally, they discuss the iconic design of the record, Prince's androgynous and controversial image at the time, and the incredible track-list of Purple Rain.
Find out about this and much more in the new episode of Hot Press Classics, out now.
This episode was produced by Paul Nolan and edited by Flo Laurent.
