Primal Scream on the Stone Roses reunion
Guitarist Andrew Innes reveals how Mani broke the news...
As Primal Scream prepare to bring classic album Screamadelica to The O2 on Thursday December 29, guitarist Andrew Innes has reflected on how Mani informed the band that he would be leaving to reform The Stone Roses.
Perhaps it was fitting that Hot Press caught up with Innes on the day that Ian Brown and co. were confirmed for the Phoenix Park - more on that here. Scream mainstay Innes was in fine form as he looked ahead to the Dublin date and seemed quite supportive in relation to Mr. Mounfield's imminent departure. But how did The Scream find out in the first place?
"He told us in a bar in Buenos Aires at about two o'clock in the morning!" laughs Innes. "It's hard for him, he’s got mixed emotions. But yeah it was about two o'clock in the morning and he plucked up the courage… I don’t know if it was drink-fuelled or if he was going to tell us anyway!
"These things tend to happen don’t they?" he continues. "As long as everyone is still alive, they tend to happen! I don’t know when we knew it was happening. We heard the rumours and they were keeping it quite tight, they must have had to sort a lot of business out. It’s going to be pretty good for them, they seem quite excited about it."
Also on the agenda during Hot Press' chat with Innes were his thoughts on whether or not Screamadelica could have the same impact if released today, the seemingly never-ending battle that is Liam vs. Noel and some choice words for Blur. Read the full interview here.
