PREMIERE: The Coronas reveal new video for 'Getaway Car' starring Love/Hate's Laurence Kinlan
"The song highlights that feeling of knowing that you would drop everything and do anything for a friend if they needed you."
Dublin outfit The Coronas have released the cinematic video for their latest single 'Getaway Car', taken from their No.1 seventh album Time Stopped and premiered below by Hot Press.
The album went straight to the top of the charts recently, making them the first and only self-released Irish band to have a third consecutive number one album.
'Getaway Car' is an emotional track that tackles supporting a friend in need. The poignant lyrics have Danny O'Reilly singing, "If you ever feel afraid, if everything just seems insane, I will be your getaway car..."
"Lyrically, the song highlights that feeling of knowing that you would drop everything and do anything for a friend if they needed you. So much so that they wouldn't even need to give you an explanation. It was written in lockdown at a time where people were focusing on going above and beyond their call of duty, helping others," said Danny.
The beautifully filmed video is a touching visual adaptation of the song's themes. It stars Oren Kinlan and his father, Irish actor Laurence Kinlan of Love/Hate, who also served as the director. The gloomy scene by the sea accompanied by the heartfelt track portrays loneliness and nostalgia, before ending on an uplifting note. The stunning cinematography was done by John Conroy of Luther, Westworld and more.
The Coronas are currently on a world tour to support the monumental Time Stopped, playing shows that were originally scheduled to happen over two years ago. "It's lovely that people haven't forgotten about us," the group said. "It's amazing to hear the new songs being sung back to us."
The tour will conclude with an epic run of five sold out shows at their home Dublin's 3Olympia. The final show will be the group's 60th consecutive sold out show at the Dublin venue, an impressive feat.
